For the past 10 years or so, most public Brazilian Higher Education Institutions have been seeking internationalization as part of their institutional strategies. In nearly all of them, members of the academic staff are chosen as heads of the international offices. As for the other members of the Internationalization team, they are selected among the administrative and technical staffs, who usually are either generalists that freely engage in the activities of the International Offices or specialists who accommodate their skills to the specific needs of Internationalization. Unlike many institutions in the world, hardly ever can public Brazilian HEIs open a position for a specialist in International Relations whose profile can be previously tested to their needs. This presentation aims at sharing with the audience the experience of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in selecting an International Relations Specialist for its central International Office.
