Globalization is a growing process of interdependent politics, economics and culture between countries, reflecting in a crescent flow of mobility of persons, cultures, services, money, technology, research, beside others, but also spreading of diseases and transforming epidemiology of a disease in a global specter, thus, creating the need of a global responsibility for health education and care. A program of internationalization in the medical curriculum should improve the students´ responsibility, their communication habilities, a greater intercultural tolerance, more empathy, achievement of new skills, flexibility, innovation and motivation for long-life-learning and prepare the students for a global and intercultural health environment. The faculties of medicine are aware of the necessity of the internationalization of the medical education, but the peculiarities and difficulties of the medical curriculum are challenging.
Epidemiological profile is different among countries; the required and taught skills are different in each country, thus, validation of credits/activities have to be assimilated.
A first workshop of the medical schools of the State of São Paulo discussed handicaps and which strategies should be adopted to overcome the barriers, to optimize international cooperation and keep best practice for establishing long-lasting programs. The northering questions, discussion points and the resulting recomendations will be exposed.
