Internationalization of higher education is no longer an option, but rather a necessity for every university committed to the quality of education, research and community engagement. The major challenges of modern society, despite their local impact, have a global reach – energy, sustainability, cities, health care and human rights, among others. Therefore, their solutions rely on the preparation of leaders with a global vision and presence. PUCPR has decided to take up this task by selecting internationalization as an institutional priority. The long-term 2016-2022 Development Plan for Internationalization of PUCPR is organized into two axes, named “InPUC” (the internationalization of the campus) and “OutPUC” (the international relations per se) consisting of three guidelines each. In brief, the three guidelines for the InPUC are (i) english as the second language; (ii) adequacy of the infrastructure and (iii) the incorporation of internationalization into the administrative/academic routine of the university. As for the OutPUC, the guidelines are: (i) focus on the establishment of strategic partnerships; (ii) consolidation the image of an international university and (iii) PUCPR as a catalyst of initiatives of international networking. Details of the structure of the plan will be described in the presentation, along with the initiatives and proposals relating to each of the guidelines – some already underway, others planned for the future.
