English without Borders (invited)

The English without Borders (EwB) program was launched in December 2012 with the goal of developing Brazilian university students’ proficiency in the English language so as to foster participation in international academic mobility programs. The Program has three main fronts: proficiency/placement tests, online courses and face-to-face courses (NucLi). The objectives of this talk are threefold: (1) to present the main objectives of the program, including its relation to the internationalization of the universities and to English teachers’ development; (2) to publicize the main outcomes the Program has achieved so far; and (3) to unveil details of the actions being undertaken at the EwB NucLi at UFRGS, as it is one of the universities which has shown the greatest participation in the country.
