The Ohio State University Brazil Gateway - International engagement with Brazil through an in-country physical presence

The Ohio State University's Brazil Gateway builds upon Ohio State's more than 50 years of partnership and strategic engagement with Brazil. Its four key areas of focus are students, research/faculty, alumni, and partnerships. The Brazil Gateway serves as an embassy for Ohio State in Brazil to foster connections and facilitate opportunities across its focus areas.

The Brazil Gateway team will share the case of its work as an in-country physical presence in Brazil for a foreign university. The presentation will include an overview of Ohio State University's internationalization goals and strategies, Global Gateways, and the Brazil Gateway. The primary focus will be the experiences gained from the Brazil Gateway's three years of operation to date including successes, challenges, and key learnings.

The presentation should be of interest to both foreign universities, seeking to increase engagement with Brazil and perhaps considering opening a physical in-country presence, and Brazilian universities seeking to increase collaborations with universities abroad.

Launched in 2014, the Ohio State Brazil Gateway based in São Paulo is the third of the university's Global Gateways, following Shanghai, China (launched in 2010), Mumbai, India (launched in 2012). Global Gateways are core to Ohio State's internationalization strategy, through establishing physical presences in key countries/regions to enhance the university's global interactions and collaborations.

Founded in 1870, The Ohio State University is one of the United States largest and most comprehensive universities. Ranked as a top-20 public university nationally, Ohio State is further recognized by a top-rated academic medical center and a premier cancer hospital and research center. As a land-grant university, Ohio State has a physical presence throughout the state, with campuses and research centers located around Ohio.
